Some minor flooding has been reported, and many creeks and streams are running high, so take it easy on the way home this afternoon. Our 8 day dry spell really saved us from some big flooding misery here.
IMPROVING WEATHER AHEAD: Rain has ended over West Alabama, and the sky is now sunny over much of Mississippi. The rain will end from west to east during the next 6 hours, and we are still promising much better weather in the days ahead.
The sky will become mostly sunny tomorrow with a high in the mid 60s.
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Great weather with sunny pleasant days and clear chilly nights. The high Thursday will be in the mid 60s, followed by low 70s Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Fantastic weather for high school football playoff games, and the college games across the Deep South Saturday.
NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video… you will see the 12Z GFS has flipped on the rain event Monday; it shows a cold front racing through Sunday night with only a few scattered showers, and dry air returning on Monday. For now, we won’t change the forecast, and will maintain a chance of showers and storms on Monday as we await model clarity.
VOODOO LAND: Again, check out the video for details on the long wave trough advertised in the November 25/26 time frame. All voodoo, of course, and that feature will probably vanish in future runs. We always have fun peeking out there around 15 days out.
STORM ALERT XTREME IS SATURDAY: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up THIS Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. Scroll down for this week’s show notes.
Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
