A west to east string of showers (and some thunderstorms) extends all the way across North Central Alabama. At 6:40, the showers were in progress from South Lamar County over on the west side, to Cherokee County along the Georgia border.
Some of the heavier showers were over East Etowah and Cherokee County. Showers were also widespread over NE Alabama in the Huntsville-Scottsboro-Guntersville-Fort Payne areas.
Across Walker, Blount, Jefferson and St. Clair County, the showers thinned in number and were lighter. So far, the showers have shunned the immediate Birmingham area.
Over in Mississippi, that same band of showers is wider and heavier. These will be taking aim at North Central and Central Alabama as Wednesday wears on, including the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham-Anniston areas.
Everything moving steadily toward the east.
