“Hi James:
Greetings from North Pole, Alaska! This week has been a week of winter weather for us here in the Interior. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we received about 8 inches of fresh snow. This morning, we awoke to temperatures of 35 below zero. Our high today was 27 below zero.
Braving the extreme cold, Mike and I ventured out to catch the sights of North Pole, Alaska. The main attractions in North Pole are The Santa Claus House and “Christmas in Ice.” The Santa Claus House was founded in 1952 and has been the center of the community. The streets in and around The Santa Claus house have very appropriate names. Such as, Santa Claus Lane, St. Nickolas Drive, Mistletoe Lane and Blitzen Drive.
The other big attraction in North Pole is the “Christmas in Ice” annual ice sculpting event. Ice sculptors from as far away as China and Russia come to compete with local ice carvers. The results were fantastic!
After visiting The Santa Claus House and “Christmas in Ice”, we went for a stroll along the Beaver Springs Nature Trail. However, after two hours in 30 below zero temperatures, we decided to go home to have a cup of hot tea.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. I also hope you have a white Christmas!”
