Back in the weather office at ABC 33/40 tonight prepping the 10:00 weather segment. I will be off the grid next week getting some needed down time… so thanks in advance to J.B. Elliott, Bill Murray, Brian Peters, Jason Simpson, and Ashley Brand for stepping in and making that possible. Seems like an eternity ago when I had a week off.

And, of course, like clockwork, we might have some winter weather issues during the week. As discussed here in recent weeks, the pattern favors winter weather problems for the southern U.S. with the active El Nino southern jet, and a strongly negative Arctic Oscillation.

The 18Z GFS hints at a chance of snow for North Alabama Wednesday night; we really won’t have a good grasp on the specifics until Sunday night or Monday morning. As usual, we are right on the borderline between a cold rain and some snow.

Brian will produce one Weather Xtreme video per day through January 3; we will get back to the two a day schedule when I get back in the saddle on Monday January 4.

And, to the HTK crowd (haters, trolls, and know-it-alls), remember no personal attacks, profanity, or general hate speech. I have no idea why a weather blog attracts these kind of people, but you will need to play nice while I am away. Lots of eyes will be watching the comment queue.

Have a safe week, and if you are traveling be careful out there.
