Up in the high country of Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the low this morning was 35 on Mt. LeConte! Not bad for the heart of summer in the South–even if it is in the Southern Highlands.
It was 56 in Gatlinburg.
The low for the entire Lower 48 was not from some mountain station in the west. It was from Stonington, Mich., a chilly 33.
It was 39 at Silver Bay and Embarrass, in the Minnesota North Woods.
