Thunderstorm intensities continue to decrease ever so slowly in the large rain band that stretches from Huntsville to Jasper to Gordo to Aliceville…but the rainfall rates seem to be increasing, as does the coverage area of moderate to heavy rain.
Heavy rain now covers much of Morgan, Cullman, western Blount, Walker, Fayette, western Tuscaloosa and Pickens Counties. More heavy rain was moving from the Meridian area into Sumter County.
The rain area has ceased its eastward movement, which is worrisome. Additional moisture continues to be hosed into the same areas, raising the concern that flash flooding may become a problem.
The recent dryness is working in our favor, but if these rains persist much longer there may be problems.
The rain and storms look like they will stay west of the immediate Birmingham area for the time being, until the line starts shifting east again.
