Rain just keeps falling over parts of Calhoun and Etowah Counties at this hour, and we are starting to get some amazing rain reports from that area. Skywatcher Josh Tanner from Hokes Bluff reports an even 1.00″ of rain since the storms began this morning, and he adds that his uncle is measuring a whopping 4.25″ of rain since this morning just north of Bynum.
NEXRAD radar estimates are above 5-6″ between Bynum and Boiling Spring in Calhoun County, and that is followed closely by a 5″ bullseye about 2 miles due west of downtown Rainbow City in Etowah County. Surrounding that, radar estimates between 2 and 4 inches from the Neely Henry Dam, to Ohatchee, stretching southwestward to Bynum.
Where it has been raining today, it is much cooler! Right now the Gadsden SkyCam shows 63 degrees with 0.48″ of rain since midnight. Anniston’s airport is at 66 degrees with only 0.03″ of rain since midnight; what a difference a few miles can make!
MORE STORMS THIS AFTERNOON: Yes, it’s likely that storms like these will be much more widespread in the afternoon. Clouds are billowing up over the Birmingham area now, and showers are likely to continue developing. Any storms today, since they are moving so slowly, could drop a HUGE amount of rain in a very short time.
