The main area of rain ahead of the cold front has moved into east Alabama, and now we are watching the precipitation in the cold air, in eastern MS and northwest AL. Reports of snow covering ground in Marion County, and snow is moving toward Moulton, Double Springs, and Carbon Hill.
As this snow band moves across Alabama, it will snow quickly, but only for an hour or less in most locations south of Cullman, so 1″ may be optimistic for BHM now. The 2″ accumulations may be confined to the Tennessee Valley and mountainous areas in east Alabama. Still, we need to keep an eye on this because the snow moving in convective, any could spread out later. In any event, the temperature will fall to near freezing by rush hour in BHM and stay there for at least a few hours, so some bridges may be icy this morning anyway.
