The strong thunderstorm that prompted the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for East-Central Jefferson County has broken up somewhat. The strongest storm has spread out and moving SE about ready to cross the Jefferson/Shelby County line into NE Shelby County. This could bring some locally heavy rain in areas south of I-20 and east of 459.

For a time, dangerous lightning was also reported in Woodlawn.

A spin-off thunderstorm developed ahead of these and was over Central St. Clair County north of I-20. Meanwhile, a new thunderstorm, a spin off of the other ones, developed over Blount County. NWS issued a Significant Weather Alert for Blount County until 4:45. The thunderstorm was 10 miles SW of Cleveland and moving very little. It has the potential to produce 45 mph wind gusts and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.

As usual in these type storms, the lightning has been ferocious this afternoon.

There are some other strong thunderstorms in other parts of the state, especially in the NW. We will try to catch up with those a little later.
