In the vast ocean of heat and humidity across Alabama this afternoon, thunderstorms were getting fairly numerous near Mobile and extending over to near Ft. Walton, Florida. Over Central and North Alabama, there were almost no storms. There was a cluster of strong storms over the NW corner of Georgia moving westward toward the NE corner of Alabama.
Meanwhile, NWS/Huntsville issued a Significant Weather Alert for NE Madison County until 3:15.
They did that because their doppler radar was tracking a strong storm near New Market moving west only slowly at 5 mph. New Market is located in extreme NE Madison County NE of Huntsville. The storm has the potential to produce pea-size hail, gusts up to 40 mph and heavy downpours.
