Our weakening showers and storms is now into Lamar, Marion Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale Counties of West Alabama.
It is but a shadow of its former self from the evening when it was over Arkansas, western Tennessee and northwestern Mississippi. But we expected that to be the case.
The Weather Service does have significant weather alerts ahead of it over West Alabama, but no severe weather watches or warnings.
It’s hard to even call them storms, since there is very little lightning with them at all. Just some heavy rain and gusty winds. The heaviest rain is over Lauderdale and Colbert Counties of Northwest Alabama.
A few showers have broken out about 60 miles east of the main line, over the eastern half of the state. Vic Bell in Etowah County did report a little thunder with this elevated activity as it passes. This line will continue to increase in coverage and intensity over the next couple of hours before it moves into Georgia, where is could cause some problems later today.
The entire system is moving faster than expected and the surface low is tracking further to the north. This means the system will be further east by the time by we get much heating of the day. This means a lessened threat for severe weather over Central Alabama. The main threat will be over Georgia and the Carolinas later today. The area under a slight risk of severe storms for today covers only the extreme eastern part of Alabama, over parts of southern Cherokee, eastern Calhoun, Cleburne, Clay, Randolp,, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Lee and Russell Counties.
Next update around 6 a.m. unless conditions warrant an earlier report.
