I like that title. Jason Simpson suggested it. This is an update on the location of our much advertised arctic cold front and some other notes including a few with little or no importance.
COLD FRONT POSITION
Almost to Paducah, Ky.
Across the Missouri Bootheel (the SE corner of Missouri that looks like a boot)
Near Little Rock
Into NE Texas
Very near Shreveport
A low pressure area is forming along the front near Shreveport. It will move NE along the front. As it does, the much colder air will spill in behind it and spread east a lot faster. The cold air is already pushing into SE Texas where Houston had a record high of 83 yesterday.
WET WEATHER SYSTEM: 24 HOUR RAINFALL
2.71 inches at Springfield, Mo.
1.27 in Tulsa
3.20 in Fort Smith, Ark.
1.22 at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW Airport)
2.02 in Chicago
HOW ABOUT THESE EXPECTED CHANGES!
80 in Dallas yesterday, will be 24 tomorrow morning
83 in Houston yesterday, expecting low of 32 tonight
72 in St. Louis yesterday, look for 21 tonight and 14 Friday night
EXTREMES FOR THE GOOD OLE USA (LOWER 4 DOZEN STATES)
90 yesterday in Laredo
21 below this morning in Alamosa and Craig, Colo.
I feel sure I can find colder than that when late reports are in
LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW
Oklahoma City*…23 degrees, sleet, north wind gusting to 43, wind chill 5

Roaring Springs***…20, gusts 35, wind chill 2
* How about that Oklahoma City report. Do you suppose the Sooners are on the practice field today?
** Yes, there really is a Turkey, Tex., it is out on the open plains of West Texas where the tumbleweed can roam the countryside.
***Roaring Springs, Tex. I was standing by our national teletype circuit one night when a Flash Flood Warning came across for Roaring Springs. Very appropriate name.
BRING OUT THE HEAVY COATS IN LAREDO
90 yesteerday afternoon. That is close to Birmingham’s normal high in mid-summer. Laredo has a Freeze Warning tonight with a low by daybreak near 30. Based on my weak math, that is a 60-degree plunge. Brisk north winds tonight will send their wind chill well into the lower 20s.
ALABAMA NOW
Still warm and humid. The cold air will not reach Birmingham until tonight. Still a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in association with the big change in weather.
