Rain is falling over much of Alabama in the wee-morning hours of the last day of 2006. Early on this Sunday morning (just before 3 am) it was raining over all but the East Central and Southeast part.
By far, the heaviest rain was down the west side of the state all the way from Florence, in the NW corner, to Mobile, on the coast. However, moderate to heavy rain had spread as far east as parts of the Greater Birmingham area.
Almost all of the lightning was from Mobile southward into the good ole Gulf of Mexico.
The NWS, Mobile, issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Mobile County until 3:15 am.
RAINFALL AMOUNTS SO FAR
1.10 inches in Cordova
1.47 at Carbon Hill
1.16 at Haleyville
1.30 at Jasper
Based on doppler radar estimates, more than three inches has fallen over SW Franklin and NW Marion County in NW Alabama. Even heavier amounts in East Mississippi.
Still, little chance of a severe weather threat except down in the SW counties near the coast, and only marginal there.
