Cold weather covers all of Alabama late this afternoon and scattered light precipitation is reported over the southern part of the state.

There is a slight chance of some light sleet or rain mainly over the south half of the state but we can’t totally rule it out as far north as the Birmingham area. Not expected to be enough to cause problems.

Looking at some 5 o’clock reports:

30 in Muscle Shoals, Huntsville and Decatur
34 in Birmingham
37 with light sleet at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery
Light rain at Troy and Ozark

Sleet was also reported this afternoon at Millbrook and at Marion.

ELSEWHERE

* NWS, Jackson posted a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 o’clock tonight through mid-morning Wednesday mainly along and south of I-20 in Mississippi. This would include the Vicksburg-Jackson-Meridian area southward. A mix of light sleet and freezing rain may cause slick spots on bridges and overpasses.

* Winter Weather Advisory also in South Louisiana in areas north and west of Baton Rouge.

* In Southeast Texas, an Ice Storm Warning is in effect and this includes the Houston area. Enough ice accumulations are possible to not only affect travel but to cause some tree and line damage.
