Good morning…
Our cold front is nearly through Alabama this morning. It has made rapid progress overnight.
The radar is basically clear across Alabama. There are a few light showers down in Autauga and Elmore Counties. Regionally, there is some light wintry precipitation across the Smokies of eastern Tennessee.
Temperatures are in the lower to middle 30s over the Tennessee Valley. The bulk of the cold air is just now beginning to reach Birmingham, where temperatures have dropped into the 30s now. The mercury will continue to fall for the next few hours across Central Alabama into the 30s and remain there all day.
The clearing line has already made it down across the northwestern third of Alabama, so areas west of I-59 are generally clear now. So those areas will open to sunshine this morning with clearing skies elsewhere as we go through the day.
Winds will be a factor today, out of the northwest at 12-25 mph and occasionally gusting higher than that. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect through 6 p.m. tonight for all of North and Central Alabama.
Get ready for some bone chilling cold tonight. Average temperatures across the areas tonight will be in the 17-20 degree range with a few normally colder locations lower than that.
Monday promises to be dry and cold with highs only in the lower 40s.
The Wednesday system should only affect South Alabama with some light rain. The Thursday system will bring rain to our area, but again it will be in the liquid form with temperatures edging back into the 50s. More colder air will be moving in by the weekend.
