Not much change in the thinking for the weekend… cold and dry.
As I write this my thermometer in northern Shelby County is showing 39 degrees; the GFS MOS for today figured we would be at 47 right now. (It actually had us in the 50s today on a number of runs earlier in the week). The MOS products remain way too warm. We have snow cover now down into Tennessee, even a dusting of snow over Northwest Alabama. The air will not modify much coming down over the snow cover over the weekend.
I will be the first to admit I was a little too cold in my weekend numbers a few days ago, but I think we will have highs somewhere between 37 and 43 tomorrow, with mid 40s on Sunday. Nights will remain cold with lows well down in the 20s. Another surge of cold air moves in here Sunday night and Monday, and after that the pattern seems to deamplify a bit toward the latter half of next week. But, it comes back in a few days, but the pattern comes back later in the month on the 12Z GFS.

NOTE: I see someone from the College of Engineering at the University has accused me of taking money from oil companies… she writes:

The Exxon funded American Enterprise Institute has offered $10,000 to any scientist willing to poke holes in the IPCC report which was written by 800 climate scientists and reviewed by 2500 others from 130 countries.”

I am trying not to make this blog some kind of circus over the global warming debate, but that was very disappointing to read. My response was simple:
Hi Tonya…
“I might suggest that isn’t a good way to argue science… making false accusations. The only relationship I have with an oil company is that I buy gas for my vehicle. Rhetoric like this is sad coming from both sides of this issue. I think everyone in the argument (again, on both sides), should disclose their financial interest in the idea of man made, catastrophic global warming. I think that would be eye opening.”
Enough on that… lets all take a deep breath and enjoy the weekend!
