Just a quick update before I start the tv shift this morning…
*A TORNADO WATCH is in effect for parts of southwestern Alabama, mainly along and south of Alabama Hwy 10 from Butler eastward to Crenshaw County.
*A TORNADO WARNING was in effect for Lauderdale County, Mississippi. That’s where Meridian is. The storm producing the possible tornado is moving east at 40 MPH across the county, and should cross into Sumter County, Alabama around 5:00 AM.
*The line of strong thunderstorms runs from around Macon, Mississippi south to the Gulf Coast. The most intense storms are from Meridian southward. This should translate into some pretty stormy weather from 6 AM to Noon south of a line from Tuscaloosa to Alabaster to Ashland. The main threat around here will be strong, damaging winds and hail, but on a day like this, we always have to keep a watch for tornadoes, too. It will be rain and thunder from Birmingham northward through midday.
*The actual cold front is still well west of the Mississippi River, and if the atmosphere can destabilize again after this first round of rain & storms, another round of intense storms may form on the cold front this afternoon.
