The Storm Prediction Center is actually considering a possible Severe Thunderstorm Watch for NE Alabama, North Georgia and the Western Carolinas.
This is because of a few strong storms capable of producing marginal hail over the next 1 to 3 hours.
It is all caused by colder air moving in aloft with an upper trough overspreading the mild surface temperatures that we have this afternoon.
Those storms will probably diminish quickly at the end of afternoon heating. So far, only one isolated storm was in progress in North Alabama. It was near the Marshall-Blount County line and moving SE toward the western edge of Etowah County. It appears to have weakened slightly in the last few minutes.
We will keep watch. We did not expect this to happen.
