An impressive squall line is moving steadily eastward across Mississippi tonight.
The line is now 35 miles west of Russellville…
30 miles west of Hamilton… 40 miles west of Vernon… about 100 miles west of Tuscaloosa and 110 miles west of Birmingham.
The line is moving east at about 35 miles per hour…perhaps a little faster than earlier.
The most dangerous storm complex is central Mississippi is over Holmes and Attala Counties northwest of Kosciusko. This is some 112 miles west of Tuscaloosa. A TVS is indicated form the Jackson radar with the storm.
Damaging straight line winds will be the main threat with this activity tonight as it moves into Alabama, but isolated tornadoes are also possible.
With the strong wind fieids aloft, it would not be surprising to have widespread wind damage overnight with downburst winds in excess of 100 mph.
This can destroy mobile homes and heavily damaged well built houses and structures. It can bring down large trees and tree limbs, which can kill.
A tornado watch has been issued for the northwestern half of Alabama until 3 a.m. CST.
