Here is a look at the radar at 3:45 a.m. It tells the story of strengthening thunderstorms over Central Alabama.
That hail marker along the Jefferson/Walker/Tuscaloosa County confluence indicates a high probability of hail, possibly to the size of gofl balls. It is moving northeast toward West Jefferson.
These storms have lot sof lightning and brief heavy rain, as well as increasing signs of small hail.
It is not out of the question that some of them could become severe briefly over the next hour or so.
The biggest storm is in the Northwest corner of the state near Waterloo. No warning is in effect, but there is a signficant weather alert from the NWS Huntsville.
No warnings in Mississippi at this time, but several large storms roaming the northern part of the state.
A severe thunderstorm watch continues until 8 a.m. for three counties in Northwest Alabama.
A tornado watch is in effect back over the Ozarks of Arkansas and southern Missouri back into extreme SE Kansas and eastern Oklahoma. There are several tornado warnings in these areas.
