Alabama’s weather will remain dry through Friday with mostly sunny mild days and clear chilly nights. We expect a high in the mid 60s today, and we will be close to 70 on Wednesday. Temperatures will drop a bit on Thursday and Friday as slightly cooler air slips into the state from the north. We will see a few scattered clouds from time to time, but there is no chance of rain for the next several days.
THE WEEKEND: The next chance of rain will come over the weekend, but model output is all over the road. The 12Z GFS has come in much faster; it hints the best chance of rain will come from about 5:00 p.m. Saturday through 4:00 a.m. Sunday. And, the system looks relatively weak with no major upper air support and weak wind fields, so hopefully severe storms won’t be an issue this time.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: For some people, next week is spring break week (for many school systems, however, is is a week later, March 19-23). The good news is that the models continue to suggest the week will be generally dry with warmer than normal temperatures. In fact, the storm track shifts northward, toward the Canadian border, and the entire period March 12-23 looks pretty decent. We can’t rule out a little rain from time to time, but the chance of a big severe weather episode sure looks small with that kind of upper air pattern.
