A very quiet early spring weather pattern will continue through the weekend as an upper ridge builds across Alabama, in response to a deep upper trough over the Southwest U.S. Our forecast package will continue to mention partly to mostly sunny warm days and fair nights through Sunday. It sure looks like we are headed for the low 80s each afternoon, with parts of West Alabama possibly reaching the mid 80s by Friday and Saturday.
NEXT RAIN OPPORTUNITY: It still looks like our next chance of getting some rain in here will come early next week, especially late Monday, Monday night, and early Tuesday. With weakening dynamics, I doubt if we have a severe weather threat, but hopefully that will bring at least one-half inch of rain to the state. Our rainfall deficit for 2007 will be nearing 8 inches by early next week.
LONG RANGE: The pattern will continue to favor above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall through the end of March, with a mean upper trough over the southwest part of the nation, and an upper ridge here across the Southeast U.S. There is some hint that a more active, zonal flow will begin to show up in April, which would mean wetter conditions for Alabama by then.
