We sure are close to that new record high today… at 2:00 Birmingham was up to 83 degrees… we need to reach 85 to tie today’s record. We still have a chance to make it in the next two hours.
COOLER TOMORROW: Daytime temperatures will drop about 10 degrees tomorrow thanks to cooler air moving into the state from the east. The high tomorrow should be in the low to mid 70s, still a little above normal for late March, but nothing like the warmth we have seen in recent days. Other than a few scattered clouds, we expect a good supply of sunshine.
THE WEEKEND: Saturday will be a dry day with a mix of sun and clouds; the high Saturday afternoon will be somewhere between 77 and 81 for most spots. The big trough out west will finally bring our next decent chance of rain on Sunday, when showers and storms are likely for the northern half of the state. No change in our thinking; the chance of severe weather looks rather minimal with weakening upper support and wind fields, and rain amounts of 1/4 to 1/2 inch are likely.
NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS continues to trend drier on Monday, so we will drop the mention of showers then. But, on Tuesday a few showers could show up again as a cold front approaches, but for now it looks like the best chance of rain will come Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Look for a change to colder weather following that mid-week rain; in fact the 12Z run of the GFS is showing thickness values on Saturday April 7 that would support frost over North Alabama, with some potential for a freeze for the colder valleys. Of course, this is out in voodoo land, but there is no doubt we will have some pretty sharp cold snaps in April. Once again, generally speaking, April looks considerably wetter and cooler than March on an average basis.
