Showers and a few thunderstorms have increased in coverage and intensity over the past hour across Central Alabama.

The main activity is now 50 miles south southwest of downtown Birmingham. It is moving NNE at 35 mph. It will affect the Birmingham metro.

Other activity is over Autauga, Elmore and Chilton County.

An area of widesread rain is over eastern Mississippi, posied to enter western Alabama, mainly north and west of I-59.

Showers and thunderstorms will affect western counties this evening and spread across the state, weakening as they go. Most areas will receive a quarter to one half inch of rain through Sunday morning, with some locations getting an inch.

Severe weather potential will be limited to areas north of I-59 and west of I-65 through midnight.

It is quite breezy. A lake wind advisory is in effect tthrough midnight for winds occasionally gusting over 20 mph.
