The SPC just issued a mesoscale discussion that includes North Alabama.
They feel like there will be little severe storm development across the state before the watch expires at 9 p.m. They have cancelled the watch for Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, Jefferson, St. Clair, Walker and Winston Counties.
But they caution that more development will occur later this evening as the main activity shifts eastward towards Alabama. We will experience severe weather later tonight in the form of an intense squall line. There could be additional isolated supercell development ahead of this main line also.
Back to the west, thunderstorms are intensifying rapidly over Arkansas this afternoon. Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect.
A tornado watch is in effect for Arkansas, western Tennessee, extreme northern Mississippi and the Missouri Bootheel.
The SPC maintains a Moderate risk for severe weather in these same areas…the MDT risk extends to the NW Corner of Alabama.
On a side note, Muscle Shoals tied their record high for the date with a reading of 87F.
