at 6:35 p.m., the radar was quiet across North and Central Alabama.
Showers were limited to parts of Marengo, Clarke, Conecuh and Covington Counties in South and Southwest Alabama.
A developing storm was over Leake County, Mississippi near Carthage, or abour 115 miles WSW of Tuscaloosa.
Low pressure is located near Chicago this evening. A cold front trails aouthwestward across Illinois, Missouri, Northwestern Arkansas, Southeast Oklahoma and back into Texas.
Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect along the line in Arkansas. Half dollar sized hail was just reported at Paragould, AR.
Ahead of the front, intense thunderstorms continue over Kentucky, the Missouri Bootheel and northern Arkansas, with other storms trailing back into Texas. A tornado was reported a short while ago at Piggott, Arkansas. Tornado warnings are in effect at this hour for Green and Hart Counties in Central Kentucky. A well defined hook echo was 15 miles WNW of Campbellsville. Another tornado warning was in effect for Calloway County, Kentucky for a storm near Murray.
Across southern Mississippi, a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Marion County, where Columbia is located. Golf ball sized hail fell at Tylertown in neighboring Walthall County a short time ago. This mean looking storm is headed in the general direction of Hattiesburg.
No watches or warnings are in effect for Alabama at this time. Additional watches will be required later as the line of storms and front approaches from the northwest. It is too early to tell if we will be dealing with a tornado threat by that time, or a severe thunderstorm threat.
All Alabamians should pay close attention to the latest westher information later tonight. Make sure your weatheradio is working and turned on before retiring. If you live in a mobile home, you will want to be vigilant overnight in case strong storms approach your location. We do not want you in a mobile home if strong winds happen. Go to safe shelter well before the storms arrive.
