That first line of thunderstorms is now affecting mainly the extreme NE part of Alabama from near Guntersville to Scottsboro to Ft. Payne. Dumping locally heavy rain.
The second line of storms has entered extreme NW Alabama and extends down to west of Columbus, Mississippi into Central Mississippi moving east.
NWS/Jackson has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clay County and Oktibbeha County in NE Mississippi. This includes the West Point and Starkville areas. The warning lasts until 2:00 p.m. NWS indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds over 60 mph. It was 12 miles west of Starkville and moving east quickly at 45 mph.
We will watch these closely as they move into West Alabama. We are still under a Slight Risk of severe weather for the remainder of the afternoon. Cooler air will be spreading across the state tonight.
