A Tornado Watch has been issued for all of South and parts of South Central Alabama.
It will be in effect until 6 p.m. CDT.
It will cover areas generally south of a line from Eutaw to Clanton to Dadeville.
In our area…it includes…Bibb…Chilton…Coosa… Dallas… Greene… Hale… Marengo… Perry and Sumter Counties.
Tropical moisture is surging northward into Southwest Alabama this morning on a strong low level jet and the atmosphere is primed for severe weather. Intense thunderstorms over South Mississippi will continue to intensify as they move into Alabama.
Tornado warnings are in effect for Forrest, Lamar and Jones Counties in South Mississipi. There are strong indications of a tornado just west of Laurel. Currently no severe weather reports in the past 30 minutes out of the NWS Jackson though.
This is the activity that will affect South Central Alabama from Choctaw and marengo Counties up toward th Montgomery area later.
Strong storms over Central Mississippi have prompted a severe thunderstorm warning for Leake County MS. This activity will affect Sumter…Greene…Pickens and Tuscaloosa Counties up into possibly Lamar and Fayette Counties in the next two hours.
The dewpoint at Tuscaloosa is up to 57F. 53F at the Birmingham Airport. Areas south of I-20 have the highest potential for severe weather today, increasing asyou move further south, but severe weather is possible across the entire state today.
