A Tornado Watch continues until 6:00 p.m. for a large part of Central and South Alabama. It does not include the immediate Birmingham area nor the Tuscaloosa-Anniston area. However, it does include Greene, Hale, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa and Chambers Counties south to the Gulf Coast.

Very strong thunderstorms were crossing into West Alabama from Mississippi, especially in Pickens, Greene and Sumter Counties where heavy rain was encountered.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Lowndes County, Mississippi, which includes the Columbus area and it is adjacent to the Alabama border.

Heavy rain was also occurring in the Tennessee Valley from Huntsville westward to Florence. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has just been issued for Lamar County in West Alabama.

The entire state is under a risk of severe weather today.This includes an enhanced moderate risk area from roughly Birmingham southward.
