As expected, this morning’s weather system was real wimp, as far as April storm systems go. Hardly any measurable rain over the northern half of the state, and even down south amounts were light and spotty. The sky has cleared, and we are looking at an extended period of dry weather ahead.
All the way through the weekend we expect mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights. Highs mostly in the 70s (although we should be close to 80 by Sunday); lows mostly in the 40s. The only problem is the lack of rain, and the rain deficit (now over eleven inches) will continue to grow.
NEXT WEEK: The 12Z run is in pretty good agreement with the 00Z run we discussed this morning. It shows our next big rain event one week from tomorrow, Thursday April 26. Then, another strong system rolls through here the following weekend; the latest run puts the heaviest rain into Alabama on Sunday April 29. Remember, the timing will change since we are out there in voodoo land (more than seven days away). But, it does look like both systems have great potential to bring some beneficial rain to Alabama before we get into the month of May.

I forgot to thank Brian Peters for getting a t-shirt for me from Saturday’s big opening of the Apple Store at the Summit here in Birmingham. Brian and I are “Mac Geeks”, and that store is something we have been waiting on for a long time. I understand about 1,000 people were lined up waiting to get in Saturday morning… I could not be there due to a Little League baseball game, and later the threat of severe weather. I hope to check out the new store sometime this weekend… since I converted to a MacBook Pro last summer I have never turned back! What a great change.
