A long line of showers, including some thunderstorms, extended all the way from NE Alabama to South Louisiana at 4:40 this morning.
It is a rather broad line, and somewhat irregular, but it is serving the purpose of bringing parched Alabama some beneficial rain. Mind you, this is not enough to end our dry spell by any means but it helps.
The area getting the rain now extended from Huntsville southwestward to Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Greensboro, Demopolis and Livingston..
The line is progressing eastward at a snail’s pace, which is good. It gives it time to produce more rain. The rain has slackened over NW Alabama in places like Lamar and Marion County northward to Colbert and Lauderdale.
Some of the heaviest rain at 4:40 was over East Tuscaloosa and Hale County. The rain is just now getting well into the Birmingham area,
Most of the lightning was over West Central Alabama and SE Mississippi.
A Tornado Watch continues until 8 am for Extreme SE Louisiana, Extreme South Mississippi and Extreme Southwest Alabama. Five counties in SW Alabama including the Mobile-Gulf Shores area.
Not a single warning has been issued in Alabama overnight.

0.95 in Northport and still raining (3340 Skywatcher)
1.00 inch in Fayette (3340 Skywatcher)
0.90 at Tuscaloosa Airport, including 0.61 between 2 and 3 am
0.33 at Cullman Skycam
2.04 at Meridian in East Central Mississippi
