Thanks for your patience with the Saturday Weather Xtreme Video. I worked with Rob and Shannon from Magic 96 this morning to emcee the kick-off to Walk America at the UAB Mini Park downtown. Lots of great people out there walking for a wonderful cause. And the weather was great, too.
We need rain – but we don’t see anything that is likely to bring us a good rain event for the next two weeks. Sure, we seem headed for a summer-like pattern with the possibility of air mass showers but there is not major system projected by the GFS that will bring a long term soaker to Central Alabama.
High pressure at the surface and aloft will stay in place across the Southeast this weekend and into the first half of the next week.
A weakness in the upper level pattern along with a surface boundary that gets dragged closed to the Tennessee Valley by Thursday brings a promise of scattered showers for the end of the week and into the weekend. But scattered showers do very little for a drought. At last check the Birmingham area was nearly 11 inches behind in rainfall for 2007.
Unfortunately the long range voodoo products don’t bring much hope either. The GFS continues to forecast a ridge over the Southeast all the way into the first third of May. We know those progs can change drastically when you get out that far into the future, but it would be nice if the GFS would show us a drought breaker – alas, no luck there.
