Here is a 12:00 noon check on Alabama’s weather…
Radars are quiet across Alabama and the Southeast. The nearest rain to Birmingham is a few light showers over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.
Temperatures were approaching 80 across central sections of the state. Skies were mostly sunny, with justa few scattered cumulus clouds around. That cumulus field will increase a bit through the afternoon, but mostly sunny conditions will prevails. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 80s across the area.
Winds were light.
High pressure is centered near Oxford, Mississippi. It is in firm control of Alabama’s weather, and will be through at least Tuesday. The next chance for rain will come mainly on Thursday with a scattered showers developing across the state, but there could be a few over northern sections of the area on Wednesday. Scattered showers will then be the rule into the weekend, but no drought busting rains in sight.
The most interesting weather nationally is over West Texas and New Mexico where an upper level low lifting out of Mexico is producing numerous showers and storms. A tornado watch will be issued soon for parts of West Texas. A tornado warning was in effect until 12:45 p.m. for Jeff Davis County in Texas. Flash flood watches and warnings also continue for parts of Southwest Texas.
