Morning reveals scenes of incredible devastation across Kansas from a long lived, tornadic supercell that picked a couple of Plains towns with uncanny accuracy and power. This long track monster cycled over and over just like the text books show as it rumbled across the countryside at 25-30 mph, producing tornado after tornado.
Hardest hit was the town of Greensburg in South Center, Kansas. A large wedge tornado struck there about 9:55 p.m.
The good news is that there is only one reported fatality this morning. That can likely be attributed to storm savvy residents and excellent advance warnings from the National Weather Service and its partners in the media and emergency managament.
Sixty three people were injured, however, some seriously we hear.
CNN reports that all of the town’s residents are being evacuated because the town is “pretty much wiped out.”
The same strom produced confirmed tornadoes near Protection, Macksville, Hudson, Great Bend and Ellinwood. Significant damage was reported in the town of Ellinwood.
Another supercell storm produced a tornado in the city limits of Phillipsburg in North Central Kansas.
Other tornadoes touched town in Oklahoma, South Dakota and Illinois.

The bad news is…the same areas will be under the gun today…
