Skies are partly cloudy across Alabama on this lazy May Sunday.
Fog and low stratus over Northeast Alabama have nearly burned away. Temperatures over the Tennessee Valley and East Alabama are in the 70s. The rest of Central Alabama is already in the 80s. A few locations like Tuscaloosa will easily make 90 degrees this afternoon. It was already 86F there at noon. The rest of the area should top out in the middle 80s.
The closest significant rain to Alabama is along the NE Florida coast near St. Augustine. A few isolated very light showers moved southwestward across Northwest Alabama and into Northeast Mississippi during the past hour.
It should remain mostly dry across Alabama this afternoon, but with a frontal boundary draped across the Northeast part of the state and a warm, humid airmass in place, we can’t rule out a couple of showers and maybe a storm.
The easterly flow will increase tonight, bringing in drier and cooler air. Readings tonight should drop into the 50s and we will stay in the 70s tomorrow. It should be refreshing.
