Several thunderstorms developed over NW Alabama this afternoon. They were mostly over Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale Counties. They were moving very little. One of the stronger ones was along the Franklin/Colbert line. A couple of those seem to be drifting south slowly into the north part of Marion and Winston Counties.
This slow movement let’s a few areas get locally heavy rain.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
The NWS-Huntsville issued the warning for SW Franklin County until 2 o’clock. The storm was capable of producing penny-size hail and damaging winds over 60 mph. It was located about 12 miles SE of Red Bay and moving SE at only 5 mph.
It will move toward Atwood and Hodges.
Over in extreme North Mississippi, there were some more strong thunderstorms and also moving very little. The NWS in Memphis issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
