Some of you folks back home in Alabama are getting a little case of shake, rattle and roll with some active thunderstorms moving westward across the state. Nothing severe, but a good bit of dangerous lightning and some welcome, but heavy rains along with even a little small hail.
The main activity continue to move westward into the Northwest part of the state. It extends from the Athens area in Limestone County to just east of Moulton in Lawrence County to near the Double Springs area of Winston County. It continues bubbling westward at some 15 mph. I say bubbling, because the large multicellular complex of storms keeps building and collapsing and rebuilding, sort of leap frogging across the Alabama countryside.
Closer to Birmingham, storms over Northwest Alabama that were briefly severe over Franklin County begat the storms over western Jefferson County as an outflow boundary raced southeastward this afternoon. Then the storms over western Jefferson County accelerated it even faster to the southeast.
Showers continue over western Jefferson County from west of Bessemer north to the vicinity of West Jefferson. Lightning has really dropped off with this storm. It continues percolating westward.
As the outflow boundary crossed Double Oak Mountain down US-280, it set off a few light showers, but they are now invisible in the ground clutter pattern around the WSR-88D Doppler Radar at the National Weather Service in Calera.
A light shower was shown up near Walnut Grove in western Etowah County.
Activity will probably continue for a while over west and northwest Alabama, where dewpoints are higher, but all the activity will weaken eventually with the loss of the heating of the day.

…Mike in Vinemont in Cullman County reported frequent cloud to cloud lightning and heavy downpours a little after 7. His temp was down to 70F after a high of 89F.
…Anna in Cullman County also reported seeing a little small hail.
…Jared in South Hueytown reported moderate rain and a few rumbles of thunder at 7:40. Jared picked up a total of 0.40 inches of rain.
…John in Concord picked up 0.09 inches with a little thunder. He relayed a report from a friend that there was lots of lightning in the Graysville area on US-78. Just not much rain.
