Thunderstorms were forming quickly over southern Shelby and northern Chilton County tonight in an area bounded by Columbiana, Jemison, the Shelby County Airport and Montevallo. The activity is moving SSW toward Jemison and Thorsby. Look for deadly lightning and the storms will be accompanied by intense rainfall.
They should quickly go downhill, however.
In North Alabama, a light shower is south of Centre in Cherokee County.
In South Central Alabama, heavy storms continue in the Prattville/Montgomery area. Radar estimates indicate as much as four inches of rain may have fallen west of Prattville from slow moving storms, but the amount was very isolated.
I would estimate that about 30% of the northern half of the state received rain today. The great majority was well less than one half inch.
Over North Alabama, the luckiest communities appear to have been near Millport and Piedmont, where over two inches looks to have fallen.
