Still no good news concerning the drought situation across Alabama. No major chance of rain for the next seven days, and the rainfall deficit will only continue to grow. A wedge of cooler air moving in from the east will knock down afternoon temperatures a bit tomorrow and Thursday; but the most significant cooling will be confined to the Georgia border. Most places will see the highs drop from the upper 80s today to the low 80s by Thursday.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Warm and dry weather will continue all across the Deep South, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s. Great weather for a trip to the beach, the Smoky Mountains, or just hanging around the house.
TROPICAL SYSTEM UPDATE FOR NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS continues to develop a tropical system in the Yucatan channel early next week; this run takes the system across the Florida peninsula, and then into the open Atlantic in the May 29-June 1 time frame. That still would not really help us with any rain, but that will bring beneficial rain to much of Central and South Florida, IF that happens to be the track. Still voodoo at this point, but that track is a very real possibility.
The GFS does develop a nice eastern U.S. upper trough around June 1 that hopefully will bring a cold front down our way with a chance of showers and storms.
