I noticed that Barry was downgraded to a tropical depression shortly after I posted the Weather Xtreme Video yesterday. Barry remained a depression this morning, and there is no signs that he will re-generate into something stronger. But the effects of the storm will be felt up the eastern seaboard of the US with flash flood watches and wind advisories in effect for portions of the east coast. For most areas including Southeast Georgia, the rain is very much welcomed. I noticed on the Skycam from Mt. Cheaha this morning that it is some of the best visibility that I’ve seen in weeks.
A weak upper level trough combined with a weak surface front will help to slightly enhance shower chances across Central Alabama today and into early Monday. That front will settle into the Gulf Coast area and gradually wash out. By mid-week a large upper ridge along with a surface high will build into the Southeast providing us with less rain chances and more heat. I expect to see highs into the lower 90s in the Thursday through Saturday time frame.
It appears that the upper ridge will become well anchored over the Southeast state for much of the longer range forecast period. The GFS still shows a change to the pattern around the middle of June, so no significant rain is on the horizon for Central Alabama.
I’m headed out today with my daughter for some additional sightseeing in Chicago. We may take in an exhibit at one of the fine museums in the city. Showers are again forecast for this area though we did not see one yesterday. I’ll have my trusty garbage sack rain gear ready to slip on should a shower interrupt my adventure today.
James Spann should be back from the beach tomorrow, all wide-eyed and bushy tailed from his time off. I hope you enjoy your Sunday and have a great upcoming week. God bless.
