A FEW RAINDROPS: A short wave will bring the risk of a little light rain to Alabama tonight and tomorrow morning, but with limited dynamics and moisture, rain amounts will be light and spotty. The NAM is now printing only 0.10″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is signing the same tune with 0.10″. Many Alabama communities won’t get enough rain tonight to settle the pollen. A few stray showers are possible tomorrow morning, but by midday the rain will be east of Alabama.
REST OF THE WEEK: Our weather looks dry Wednesday through Friday with a warming trend; looks like we are headed for the low 80s Thursday and Friday with a pretty decent amount of sunshine each day.
THE WEEKEND: Still looks like our next significant rain will come over the weekend. Global models continue to paint a pretty wet scenario for our state Saturday and Saturday night with periods of rain and possibly a few thunderstorms. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the GFS pushes the rain out of the state by mid-morning Sunday. Rainfall amounts of at least 1 inch are likely Saturday, with some spots possibly getting two inches of rain. Severe weather parameters still look less than impressive, but you always have to watch systems that blow in here in late April.
RACE WEEKEND: Sure looks like it will be difficult to get the Aaron’s 312 run Saturday at the Talladega Superspdeedway; rain and thunderstorms are likely most of the day Saturday. However, the rain should be over by late morning Sunday, so the Aaron’s 499 is in much better shape Sunday with the sky becoming partly sunny. Highs over the weekend will be mostly in the 70s at the track.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The first few days of next week look dry and mild, and we still see no sign of any serious severe weather outbreak for Alabama through early May. So far so good this severe weather season…
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. This week, the legendary Bob Baron will be along to talk about his career, the 1989 Huntsville Tornado, weather systems, radar and the future of weather forecasting. We will record the new episode tomorrow night.
