LIKE SUMMER: Alabama’s weather this week will feel like summer with rising humidity levels and highs between 85 and 90 degrees. Showers will remain scarce today and tomorrow, but we expect an increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms over the northern half of the state Wednesday as a surface front approaches. Then, we will have some risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms on a daily basis through the Memorial Day weekend.
Rain distribution won’t be very even due to the scattered nature of the showers and storms, and the highest rain coverage will remain over the northern half of the state. Best chance of showers over the weekend will come during the afternoon and evening hours, generally from 2:00 until 10:00 p.m. Just like summer.
Concerning next week some global models are hinting at a pattern change that could bring a higher coverage of rain for Alabama and the Deep South… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

SEC BASEBALL: The annual SEC baseball tournament is in Hoover tomorrow through Sunday. The risk of a shower tomorrow is very small; afternoon temperatures will be in the 87-90 degree range. Then, we will have the risk of a passing shower or storm each day Wednesday through Sunday during the afternoon and evening hours; highs will be in the mid 80s. The showers and storms will be scattered and random.
ON THIS DATE IN 1995: A powerful and destructive F4 tornado struck several towns across Limestone and Madison counties, killing one person and causing extensive damage and devastation, including the destruction of the Anderson Hills subdivision north of Huntsville. The tornado touched down just northwest of Athens. It tracked from that point through Harvest, Meridianville, and New Market in northern Madison County, and ended near Princeton in northwest Jackson County.
The strongest portion of the tornado’s path was near Harvest in northwest Madison County around the Anderson Hills subdivision and the Huntsville Dragway. The one fatality came at the Oakdale Mobile Home Park, where 13 mobile homes were destroyed.
