RADAR CHECK: We note a few small, isolated showers over northeast corner of Alabama this afternoon, but most of the state is dry and warm with a good supply of sunshine. Temperatures are in the 85-90 degree range. Isolated showers will end soon after sunset, expect a low early tomorrow between 68 and 72 degrees.

Alabama’s weather for the rest of the week and over the Memorial Day weekend will continue to feel like summer with high humidity levels and highs mostly in the mid to upper 80s. Each day we expect random, scattered showers and thunderstorms to form during the afternoon and evening hours.
Rain distribution won’t be very even due to the scattered nature of the showers and storms, and the highest rain coverage will be found over the northern half of the state. While a morning shower can’t be ruled out, the best chance of showers each day will come generally from 2:00 until 10:00 p.m. Just like summer.
For now we aren’t expecting much change next week; warm and humid with the daily round of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

SEC BASEBALL: The annual SEC baseball tournament is underway in Hoover… it continues through Sunday. We will have the risk of a passing shower or storm each day during the afternoon and evening hours; highs will be generally in the mid 80s with high humidity levels. The showers and storms will be scattered and random.
ON THIS DATE IN 1973: Three tornadoes tore through North Alabama… an F2 in Madison County near Hazel Green, an F2 in Jackson and Dekalb counties which affected South Scottsboro, Section, and Powell, and an F4 which affected Fort Payne and Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County. On the ground for 5.4 miles, the Fort Payne tornado caused 19 injuries. At least 37 buildings were destroyed just north of downtown Fort Payne and 117 buildings were damaged. 150 people were attending the “Little Miss Maid of Cotton” contest at a school gymnasium. Attendees took cover against the walls of the gym just before the tornado struck. Despite damage to the gymnasium, there were no injuries at the school.
Look for the next video briefing here by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow…
