The CoCoRaHS observer at Bartlett, TN, on the northeastern side of Memphis reports 7.20 inches of rain since midnight and says the rain is still pouring down.

9.46 inches fell near Atoka, TN and 7.78 inches near Jackson, TN.

This points to the high flooding threat from this slow moving, moisture laden system.

This type rainfall will be pushing slowly east over the next 72 hours.

Look at the NCEP Quantitative Precipitation Forecast for the next five days across the U.S. with a bulls eye over Northwest Alabama and southern Tennessee at over 8 inches expected. Areas along and north of I-59 should see 4-5 inches or more with 3-4 inch amounts south of that.

Needless to say, flooding will become a problem over Alabama between now and Monday night. Look for Flash Flood Watches to be issued later today for parts of the area.

In Central Alabama, the greatest flooding threat will come Sunday afternoon, evening and into Monday.
