The showers and thunderstorms moving through central Alabama now contain heavy rain, gusty winds, and vivid lightning, so they’re nothing to ignore. But, the air has remained fairly stable today due to all the cloud cover, and the storms are generally not severe.

I am a little concerned about the new storms developing in Mississippi. On satellite, it looks like we could get a little sunshine once this first line passes.

Temperatures have climbed into the lower 80s in east MS, and CAPE is now above 1,500 in much of MS.

With wind shear in place over Alabama now, if the sun comes out for a while late this afternoon, the storms in Mississippi could still be severe when they move through Alabama late this afternoon and this evening. It shouldn’t be a big deal, but we’ll keep an eye on it. Don’t assume that the system is over once the rain ends with this first area.
