At mid-afternoon, a new line of thunderstorms started developing over Mississippi. By late this afternoon, the northern end of that line (the strongest part) had edged into NW Alabama and extended south westward to South Mississippi SW of Jackson.

This line of storms grew strong enough to prompt the NWS in both Huntsville and Birmingham to extend the Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a number of NW and West Alabama counties until 7:00 p.m. (an extension of two hours).

Also, the NWS in Birmingham issued a Tornado Warning for NW Marion County that went until 5:30. The same cluster of thunderstorms prompted the NWS/Huntsville to post a Tornado Warning for adjacent Franklin County until 5:45.

Meanwhile, back on the first line of storms, some moderate to heavy showers and a few thunderstorms were in the general vicinity of Birmingham. All of these storms are moving toward the NE while the line shifts slowly eastward.
