NOT AS HOT: I do believe the past two days will be the hottest days of this summer for Alabama; a few spots exceeded 100 degrees on both days. Afternoon highs today will be in the 90-94 degree range for most places, much closer to average values for mid-August. As always, we have the risk of a few thunderstorms this afternoon… most all of them today will be over the southern half of the state.

Highs for most communities will be in the mid 90s tomorrow and Thursday with a few spotty afternoon storms around, most numerous over South Alabama.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Routine summer weather is expected Friday and over the weekend. Partly sunny days, highs mostly in the low 90s, and random, scattered showers and storms around generally between noon and 9:00 p.m.

Not much change is expected through next week… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: All remains very calm across the Atlantic basin; tropical storm formation is not expected for at least the next 7-10 days.

ON THIS DATE IN 1931: The Yangtze River in China peaks during a horrible flood that kills 3.7 million people directly and indirectly over the next several months. This flood was perhaps the worst natural disaster of the 20th century.

ON THIS DATE IN 1983: Hurricane Alicia: Alicia came ashore near San Luis Pass, Texas, as a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 mph.

Look for the next video briefing here by 3:00 this afternoon… enjoy the day!
