Happy Mother’s Day for 2010. And it is going to be a wonderful Mother’s Day when it comes to the weather. We had a cool day yesterday and it looks like it will warm a bit but still be a sunny, coolish day today after a start that included temperatures getting into the upper 40s. The refreshing weather came about due to a cold front that moved through the area yesterday morning.

The front is down in the Gulf and across the Florida Peninsula this morning. Monday a weak disturbance traveling through the ridge will bring a small chance for showers to Central Alabama. I think a lot of us stay dry, but there will be some scattered showers around for a few of us.

After that little disturbance passes, the weather goes dry as a strong upper ridge builds into the eastern third of the country. The ridge is the main story all week until it finally begins to break down late in the week. That opens the door for some scattered showers for the weekend. Temperatures will once again climb into the 80s for Central Alabama with lows in the 60s. Some of us will probably be flirting with 90 to 92 degree values by Friday and Saturday.

Looking ahead into voodoo country, the GFS seems much more reasonable in the ridge along the eastern Rockies and a fairly deep trough along the East Coast. This pattern looks much more realistic as compared to the huge Omega block pattern the GFS got hooked on yesterday. This could mean some slightly cooler weather for the latter part of May for us.

I had a wonderful time emceeing the Buck Creek Festival in Helena Friday and Saturday. My good friend Bill Ginas did a spectacular job of lining up some great entertainment which culminated last night with an energetic show by Jason D. Williams. He is a wonderful entertainer and put on a show that became a great crowd pleaser. James Spann will be back with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video first thing Monday morning. Happy Mother’s Day and Godspeed.
