LOCATION
At 7:00 a.m. Alabama time, the center of Hurricane Dean was near latitude 15.4N, longitude 67.9W. Translation: about 615 miles ESE of Kingston, Jamaica or about 250 miles SSE of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
MOVEMENT
Toward the west about 17 mph. A general west to WNW track is expected during the next 24 hours. The center of the powerful hurricane will be moving south of the Dominican Republic later today and south of Haiti tonight.
WINDS
Highest sustained winds near 150 mph. Satellite photographs hint that Dean may have weakened a bit during the last few hours, but he is still a dangerous Category 4. A hurricane hunter is approaching Dean as I type this.
