ILLEGAL SHOWERS: The sky is generally clear over Alabama this morning, but oddly enough we actually have some “illegal” showers over Northeast Alabama this morning (illegal showers are showers that are not in the forecast!), which formed along an outflow from activity well to the north last night. These showers should fizzle out soon, and with relatively dry air in place, most of Alabama will enjoy a good supply of sunshine today with a high around 90 degrees. The humidity will remain rather low for early June, making the day somewhat comfortable.
TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: The GFS and the NAM are a little more aggressive with the risk of storms late tomorrow or tomorrow night, as the door will be open for strong storms over Tennessee to drift down here. SPC has a slight risk of severe weather up for much of Tennessee tomorrow afternoon for storms that should form ahead of a surface boundary; we will keep an eye on those as they form. The best risk of a thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon should be over the northern third of the state, but a few are possible as far south as I-20. And, they could be rather strong.
That surface front will dissipate Thursday, but a few scattered showers and storms are still possible. Then, on Friday, heights rise and it looks like showers and storms will be fewer in number, with highs rising into the low to mid 90s.
HOT WEEKEND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS shows a 5940 meter 500 mb heat bubble forming over Alabama Saturday, which could very well push temperatures into the mid 90s. That also should mean very few showers. We could see a few showers and storms Saturday and Sunday, but for now it looks like they will be widely scattered. Sunday will be hot as well with highs in the low to mid 90s.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: At this point it looks like fairly routine summer weather next week, with the primary storm track well to the north, and partly sunny days here with the standard risk of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm in a few spots. Highs will be mostly in the low 90s.
AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny weather is likely on the Central Gulf Coast (Panama City west to Gulf Shores) through tomorrow, with afternoon highs around 90, thanks to an offshore flow. A few widely scattered showers and storms could show up by Thursday and Friday, but you will still enjoy a good supply of sunshine on both of those days. The sea water temperature last night at Pensacola Beach was a very warm 87.4 degrees (F). Despite the warm water, the tropics are relatively quiet and tropical storm formation is not expected this week across the vast Atlantic basin.
